Vets
Jonathan Underwood BVetMed MRCVS
Jonathan was brought up and educated in West Sussex, coming from a local farming family. After Graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in 2002 he worked for some years in a mixed veterinary practice in Suffolk. After a year working and travelling with Annelise in Australia he began work at a large veterinary hospital in Berkshire where he subsequently became clincal director. Jonathan has specific interest in surgery, particularly orthopaedic, and is also experienced in veterinary MRI. Jonathan is looking forward to meeting and getting to know all the practice clients and their pets!
Outside of work, Jonathan enjoys clay pigeon shooting and plays hockey if he is fit enough!
Annelise Underwood BVetMed MRCVS
Annelise grew up in Buckinghamshire and, after a gap year in New Zealand helping to run a large dairy farm, graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2002. Her career has run parallel to Jonathan's and she was most recently lead veterinary surgeon at a 3 branch practice on the Berks / Hants border. Annelise is particularly interested in treating exotic pets such as reptiles, birds and small mammals and also has specific expertise in veterinary accupuncture.
Most of Annelise's time is currently spent looking after Elliott who was born in January 2012 as well as walking Scout, the family dog!
Malcom Wild BVetMed MRCVS
Malcolm decided he wanted to be a vet while growing up on a dairy farm in Bedfordshire. After qualifying from the Royal Veterinary College in 1985, he worked in Shropshire and Oxfordshire where he became particularly interested in small animal practice.
Malcolm and his wife Jennie then travelled across South East Asia and Australia - a wonderful trip slightly marred by contracting Dengue Fever and being ship wrecked off a remote island in the South Pacific!
When not working Malcolm likes walking, cycling and skiing and would enjoy golf if he played it more often.
Jennie Wild BVetMed MRCVS
Jennie was brought up in Kent, the daughter of a doctor. After a childhood filled with animals she spent a gap year working on a ranch in Canada, taking guests on trail rides in the Rockies.
A place at the Royal Veterinary College, London tempted her back to England where she met Malcolm in the first few weeks of term.
Jennie worked in Newbury and London before the Wilds bought Hawthorn Veterinary Surgeries together in 1993. They moved in with their three-week-old daughter Lucy, and son Tom quickly followed.
The family now have Archie the terrier, two cats and Muskateer the horse.
David Nutbrown-Hughes BVSc CertVOphthal MRCVS
David originally comes from Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire. After graduating from Bristol in 1995, he first worked in mixed practice in Kidderminster and then the RSPCA in Taunton.
He arrived at the practice in 1999 and has built on his interest in animals’ eyes, gaining the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons’ Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 2004.
When not working, David likes to spend time with his young family, tending his garden and playing the saxophone in a local band.
Clare Newton BVetMed MRCVS
Clare graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1993 and started work at a mixed practice in Staines, Middlesex.
After three years she moved to a country village practice in Paddock Wood, Kent and then to Hawthorn Veterinary Surgeries in 2002. She has a special interest in diagnostic imaging (radiography and ultrasonography).
She has a dog called Hetty, guinea pigs called Scrumpy and Rosa and a cat named Flo.
Alison Bennett MA VetMB MRCVS
Alison grew up in Newbury, Berkshire. She graduated in biology from Imperial College, London, before studying Veterinary Medicine at Cambridge University.
Alison, who has an interest in veterinary cardiology, joined Hawthorn Veterinary Surgeries in January 2006 as a part-time vet. At home Alison has a daughter, who keeps her busy and (relatively) fit.
