Pet Proactive Pet Insurance

About Pet Proactive Pet Insurance:

Pet insurance should provide a pet owner with peace of mind that their pet is covered for the veterinary treatment which they require up to the financial limit on their policy. However, we frequently see situations where pet owners are left feeling frustrated or unfairly treated when attempting to make a claim on their pet insurance, normally because of an unforeseen cost which they expected to be covered.  There are many reasons for these grievances, but the three most common are:

1.      Insurance premiums appear to be increased disproportionately when a claim is made.

2.      There are exclusions on the pet insurance policy of which the owner is unaware until the claim is made.

3.      The excess (the amount the owner has to pay) can contain hidden extra costs such as a percentage of the entire claim, a cap on certain veterinary fees or multiple excesses on different conditions.

For these reasons, we are excited to announce our new partnership with Pet Proactive pet insurance which directly benefits Hawthorn Vets clients, is fair, transparent and avoids the frustrations above:

1.      Pet Proactive will never increase your premium just because you have made a claim.

2.      Pet Proactive can access your pet’s medical history and can confirm any pre-existing conditions or exclusions at the start of the policy so you know exactly what is covered.

3.      There is one single excess of £100 per year regardless of the number of claims made or the number of conditions.

There are other benefits too!

1.      All claims for care at Hawthorn vets can be made directly with Hawthorn vets, meaning that you don’t need to pay a large balance up front and wait for your insurance provider to pay – the only cost is your annual excess of £100

2.      Pet Proactive only work with independent vets. Premiums are based on the fair pricing at Hawthorn Vets, not the national veterinary market. This means most of our customers will have competitive premiums for an equivalent policy from another provider.

Please note that Hawthorn vet's partnership with Pet Proactive is purely a professional one which facilitates the easy exchange if information. Hawthorn Vets has no incentive for financial gain through this relationship.

What is the cover provided?

The Pet Proactive policies deliver a new type of insurance that provide lifetime cover for treatment and referrals through our practice. The policies are designed for customers who are happy to commit to using Hawthorn Vets as their main veterinary practice. We believe this is a much simpler type of insurance which not only removes the worry of unexpected veterinary bills but will also save money for most of our customers over their pet’s lifetime.

Pet Proactive offer cover from £4,000 to £12,000 per year, and whichever policy you choose comes with the following good to know features:

• Complete medical cover including dental illness*

• Any treatment or referral we prescribe is covered up to your policy limit

• A clear and simple policy which confirms any pre-existing conditions exclusions at the start

• Premiums are based on the fair pricing at Hawthorn Vets and Pet Proactive will never increase your premium just because you have made a claim.

• Unlike most policies where you may need to pay an excess per condition per year, with a Pet Proactive policy you only pay one excess per year of £100 irrespective of how many conditions you are claiming for, up to your annual claim limit.

• Hawthorn Vets will process your claims upon request so you don’t need to worry about paying the balance to us if you’re insured with Pet Proactive.

• Treatment through another vet practice is included if you are away from home.

What does it cost?

It’s quick and easy to get a quote for any pet which is registered at Hawthorn Vets. All you have to do is click here and enter the mobile number you have registered with us on the Pet Proactive website and your prices are displayed. Please note that new policies are only available to pets under 6 years of age. Once a policy is taken out, your pet is covered for their whole life as long as you renew annually.

Want to switch provider?

If you already have pet insurance, Pet Proactive’s free “switch check service” will confirm if any pre- existing health conditions would affect your policy before you buy, so you can have complete certainty of cover for you and your pet. They will also advise  whether you can cancel with your current pet insurance provider before your renewal date. Just click here to access the Pet Proactive quote page, enter your pet’s details and click “free switch check”.

What happens if my pet needs treatment at another veterinary practice or I wish to move from Hawthorn Vets as my primary care?

Cover up to the limit on your policy is still provided at another veterinary practice in the following situations:

1.      If your pet is unwell and you are away from home and unable to travel to Hawthorn Vets.

2.      If your pet needs emergency treatment and you are unable to get to Hawthorn Vets, or if it is outside of Hawthorn Vets opening hours.

3.      If your pet is referred to another veterinary practice by Hawthorn vets or another veterinary practice providing care to your pet in scenarios 2 or 3 above.

Please note, claims for care at another practice cannot be settled via Hawthorn vets. It will be at the discretion of the other practice as to whether they will settle the claim directly with Pet Proactive or request payment from the client and then the client makes a claim with Pet Proactive.

If you choose to move veterinary practice, then Pet Proactive will provide you with an alternative policy. The new policy will  continue to cover any health conditions your pet develops whilst insured through Pet Proactive, but the premium is likely to be different as it will reflect the veterinary treatments costs in your area, rather than the pricing at Hawthorn vets.

If you would like any more information, then please do not hesitate to contact us and one of our team will be happy to help.
