Kara Sayers-Wood (Practice Administrator)
Kara came to Hawthorn Veterinary Surgeries in August 2004 as a receptionist, after working as a dental nurse for 7 years. She enjoys all aspects of her role, especially the client and animal contact. Outside work Kara enjoys spending time with her husband and two young sons, and caring for her rather quirky tortoise Hattie, her cat Arlo, and her VERY quirky boxer Obie! Kara is also a keen photographer.
Rebecca Jarrett - Head Receptionist
Becs started working at Hawthorn Vets in March 2015 after spending 5 years working in a town veterinary practice along the coast. She enjoys all aspects of her role but particularly enjoys the client/animal interaction. In her spare time she can be found out walking Tia her Jack Russell terrier, tending the allotment on the family smallholding, reading a book, catching up with friends and family or in the Springtime lambing the flock of 130 ewes.
Chris has lived in West Sussex for the past 21 years. Before joining Hawthorn Veterinary Surgeries she ran her own petsitting/dog walking business. She is interested in dog behaviour and has completed a canine massage course. For her, the best part of the job is meeting all the animals (and owners of course). When not at work she enjoys walking her dog Jamie, swimming and reading.
When not working, Sue enjoys cycling, walking, running marathons and spending time with her family. In 2005, Sue took part in a charity trek across the Arctic with a team of huskies and given the opportunity would now like to go to the Antarctic.
Claire started working at Hawthorn in April 2015, previously she worked as a dental nurse for many years. She enjoys all aspects of her role as a veterinary receptionist and when she is not at work spends her time catching up with friends and walking her two rescue dogs, Winnie a Basset Hound and Amber a Beagle.
Alison joined the reception team in December 2016 and loves her role having spent many ( many ) years in the banking industry. She loves welcoming our clients and making a fuss of all the animals along side her other various duties. When Alison is not working she enjoys socialising with her family and friends, volunteering for the Cats Protection and the Cinnamon Trust, walking, planning her next holiday and learning Greek !!! She shares her home with her husband, cat Mrs Norris ( who rules the roost) and her pony Champagne.
Jo started working at Hawthorn in March 2017. Previous to that she has worked as a Firefighter in Brighton and ran her own livery yard. She has a daughter, Scarlott who likes to keep her on her toes! She
also has two dogs: a GSD called Max and a pug cross callled Ralph as well as two horses -
Hogwarts Hufflepuff and Angelina! Unsurprisingly, she is always busy looking after them but wouldn't have it any other way!
Lizzie joined the practice in November 2018 after moving back to West Sussex from Manchester. She lives in Hassocks with her husband, son and Chinese Crested Powderpuff Suzie. Lizzie previously worked for 5 years at a vets in Manchester. Prior to that she was a keeper at Chester Zoo, looking after animals ranging from elephants and giraffes to anteaters!
